For all things related to Japanese language learning.
I've been listening to the Michel Thomas audio-course recently and despite not actually being taught by him, I think it's an excellent way to start building up thoughts in Japanese. You're expected to pause after every question and answer along with the two-person class on the recording, so it feels thought-intensive than taking down notes on grammar or drilling Anki cards.
Starting with speech also seems like the ideal way to start in general--the last time I tried learning JP I started with reading first, but it felt more like an exercise in decoding than any sort of actual understanding.
